Do you need peace and quiet, time and space, to get on with your writing? Would you like delicious meals and wine and good company at the end of the day’s work? Maybe an award-winning author to have a look at what you’ve been working on, and offer words of advice? And support in keeping off the internet?
Castello di Potentino is delighted to announce the very first Potentino Bookclub Digital Detox Writing Week: a week of writing, walking, eating, sleeping, talking, drinking and no screens (unless we choose to show a film on a full-size one, for watching sociably) led by Potentino’s in-house author Louisa Young, who has taught often at Arvon and was a Visiting Lecturer in Creative Non-fiction at the University of Kent.
You can park your phones, cut off from demands, relax your mind, and recapture what it is like to have your brain to yourself, whether cracking down to creativity, walking the beautiful valley, or browsing Potentino’s glorious libraries. If what you need is a week in Tuscan heaven to bring your novel, your memoir, or any other piece of writing to life — to start it, to finish it, to give it some dedicated time and expert professional support — this is your chance.
Louisa Young read history at Cambridge. A former journalist, she is the award-winning author of fourteen books, including My Dear I Wanted to Tell You, The Heroes' Welcome and Devotion – three novels set across the early 20th century; The Book of the Heart, a cultural history of that most vital organ, and A Great Task of Happiness, the biography of her grandmother Kathleen Scott, sculptor and widow of Scott of the Antarctic.
She is the adult half of Zizou Corder, authors of the best-selling Lionboy trilogy for children, which is published in 36 languages. Her latest book is a memoir, You Left Early: A True Story of Love and Alcohol (Borough Press 2018). In June she releases her debut album as a singer/songwriter, also called You Left Early, with her band Birds of Britain. If you would like to know more please visit her website here.
- Transfers to and from Pisa Airport (although you may prefer to hire a car so that you can visit the local countryside).
- Two 50-min sessions of individual attention for you and your writing, plus further shared support during the retreat.
